The story of the name
Why Tisa
The yew — tisa in Romanian — is the most patient tree of our mountains. It grows so slowly that a trunk the width of a hand can be a century old, and Europe's oldest yews are over a thousand years old. In Romania it is protected by law — you only cut it down in stories.
The village elders used to say the yew keeps evil away from the home. A sprig was hung at the gate or the barn, and its reddish wood, heavy and almost everlasting, was kept for things meant to last.
That is how we imagined this cabin: a place without hurry, for two people who want to stay. To leave the watch on the table and remember what it feels like to have time.
